About the Department :     

Forensic Medicine is medical specialty which deals with the application of medical knowledge in the administration of justice. Forensic medicine expert deal with medico-legal work e.g. post-mortem examination, examination of rape victim & accused, examination and reporting of injuries, weapons, certification of  age and drunkenness etc.

Vision

  • To produce a future medical graduate who will be more informed about medico-legal responsibilities and to train competent expert in Forensic Medicine.
  • To enhance Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based teaching –learning.
  • To produce future Teacher and Researcher in the field of Forensic Medicine.

Mission

At the end of course the student shall able to

  • Make them acquire knowledge of the law in relation to medical practice, medical negligence and in respect for codes of medical ethics.
  • Identify the day to day medico-legal problems in practice and resolve them.
  • Describe the medico-legal aspects and findings of post-mortem examination in case of death due to common unnatural conditions.
  • Diagnose, manage and identify the legal aspect of poisoning cases.
  • Perform the post-mortem examination, collect and preserve the trace evidences for further investigation in a medico-legal case.
  • Interpret histo-pathological, radiological, chemical and DNA analysis for medico-legal cases.
  • To understand and respect the code of medical ethics.
